Shaldon, Devon

Ground investigation, slope assessment, and stabilisation design for a new private property.

Many sites with the best views are located on the top of coastal cliffs and Red Rock have particular expertise in the requirements for designing stabilisation measures for such schemes.

At Shaldon, a ground investigation and assessment prior to the construction of a new building property overlooking the River Teigndetermined that the upper section of the soil and rock slope situated at the rear of the property would be unable to meet the performance requirements needed for the proposed new building. As a result engineering works were required in order to improve the stability condition to a level acceptable with current civil engineering standards and stabilisation of the soil profile along the cliff edge was required to provide support to the proposed structure and to prevent continued deterioration of the soil and rock face (through weathering).

The stabilisation design included the installation of soil nails, placement of wire mesh, and control of future vegetation growth.

The stabilisation works were undertaken by Vertical Technology Ltd.
